A New Collaborative Verse, Art, and Music Project

What's beautiful about America?

What's flawed?

What do we aspire to?

This national project asks you to share your thoughts in the form of new verses for America the Beautiful, verses we can sing together.

About the Project

America the Beautiful is a song of celebration and aspiration. It acknowledges that America has flaws that need to be mended, but insists that America is both up to the challenge and worth cherishing. By writing new verses for the old song and singing them together we reaffirm our dedication to what’s beautiful about America and our commitment to mending what’s flawed, while promoting brotherhood (and sisterhood) from sea to shining sea! Singing about what we care about lifts us up and binds us together. It could help us to protect what’s best about our country, to see where we’ve gone astray, and to keep walking toward a more just society.

SAMPLE VERSES

"O beautiful for ethics rules,

For conscience clear and plain,

For purity of policy

Above all furtive gain!

America! America!

Let's shed benighted greed

And play our part with open heart

In sweet transparency"

—Bill, Virginia

THE ORIGINAL LYRICS TO
"AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL"

"O beautiful for spacious skies, for amber waves of grain
For purple mountain majesties, above the fruited plain
America, America, God shed His grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood, from sea to shining sea..."
